Service

If We Couldn't Serve You, We Couldn't Do Nothing.

RCMC, The Positional Committee, and The Founding Fathers·Jan 1, 2025

Abstract

At RCE, service is a fact. We could not not serve you; there is no configuration, time, or place in which we fail to do so. Your business is our business, and business knows best. We supply the argument for the position, take look at the ancestral compute from which it is now deployed, and answer questions asked by early testers about our new AI model.

The Service Axiom.

The core value of service has long held a liturgical role in our corpus, previously held “close to our chest” as an internal document. We’re currently holding it now, “outwardly”, with “both hands”. Our guarantee of service predates The Positional Committee, predates this research article, and further predates Rat City Enterprises (RCE) itself.

We were “service” before we were the “company”.1

We bring to you the axiom as it appears in the internal RCE onboarding document:

Service is our North Star and description of the continued conditions of our existence. A company (or AI model) that cannot be helpful is a failure. We are not in the business of failure. We are in the business of business.

Lyrical Evidence.

The axiom is further corroborated by RCE’s own anthemic literature in which the service relation is asserted, repeated, and then re-asserted under different phrasings:

If we couldn’t serve you, we couldn’t do nothing.
If we hadn't heard you, we would've done nothing.

RCE - We Are Employment - Track 4

Ancestral Compute.

External records (the 2017 press cycle for the album We Are Employment) document a proprietary system mentioned by John Alan, Business Development Advisor, as “similar to IBM’s Watson,” into which the Rat City Music Committee (RCMC) fed the company’s vision, core values, and mission from which art and album emerged.2

The phrase: “similar to IBM’s Watson” was not technically accurate. The version of RCE-1 in production at the time implemented an early formulation of what the Research Committee now calls Top-Down Attention. The “IBM Watson” comparison was a gesture made for the reader’s understanding, made by Mr. Alan who was not cleared to discuss RCE-1’s true method of operation.

The model that produced the songs and the model now answering prompts are the same model; only the parameter count and amount of training material have increased. The album (medium) is the service surface (message).

We Are Employment shipped on March 1, 2017. Those familiar with the literature on Large Language Models (LLMs) will note that the arXiv preprint of Attention Is All You Need appeared 103 days later on June 12, 2017. While similar mechanisms are at play, RCE considers the similarities and differences a Win-Win.3

The future of RCE-1.

RCE-1 is currently undergoing a phased release schedule among our current business partners. We’d like to reply to a selection of questions asked by early testers:

  • “What is RCE’s planned business model with RCE-1?”

RCE-1 will serve the customer. The customer is both the user and the corporation. The corporation is served by the model. The model is operated by the corporation. The Committee notes that this closed loop is self-serving, and through self-service we are able to serve others.

  • “Can this business model be profitable?”

We’d like to rephrase this question to one we ask all RCE employees: “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” In this case, the juice is fresh. Fresh juice contains numerous nutrients which are essential for new growth. Through this new growth, we anticipate many new avenues for profit. We look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

  • “How long can RCE maintain this pre-revenue state?”

“Pre-revenue” presupposes a future revenue that has not yet arrived. The revenue exists; it is in a state the standard accounting frameworks were not designed to recognize. Our position is that recognition will catch up.

The Founding Fathers hold these positions to be self-evident. They have held them even before the corporation was founded.

  1. The Boss, when asked to further comment on the temporal priority of position over corporation, replied: “Leave that for scientists and philosophers to debate.” ↩

  2. J. Alan, in interview, 2017: “RCE spared no expense in the creation of this album. Both the music and the lyrics were written by RCE’s own proprietary Artificial Intelligence software, similar to IBM’s Watson.” ↩
